Rough Animatic

I have added sound to my rough animatic. They are sounds from other animations, the arguing is from 'Behind Closed Doors' (2009) Jonathan Button. And both pieces of music are from 'Coraline' (2009) Henry Selick. The sounds are rough but it really fits the emotions and the type of music I want for the final animation.

Bedroom Design again

The feedback from the previous bedroom designs wasn't good, there was a lot I needed to change. One of the things was that there wasn't a lot of objects in the room, and the toy box just seems to be in the way. So I should either have minimum things in the room to emphasise her loneliness  or I should put a lot more things in there to make it feel more like a child's room. Also,The colours were too similar, I needed to experiment with different colours. Caroline suggested I look at colour wheels, as they show all the colours that compliment each other.

As I was looking at these, Dewi suggested I look at Vinvent Van Gogh's painting, as he used a lot of blue and yellow/orange, which are complimenting colours.

So, with these things in mind, I then tried to re create the bedroom.

But, I didn't like any of these, it still didn't feel right, and I feel like I'm not getting the hang of the colour wheel. I spoke to Deb, and she said that she imagined the girls room to be really dingy. So I thought about this, and went back to look at my research, and looked at the style of the childrems bedrooms in them.

First, a still from 'Coraline'. Her real life bedroom is very dull, with few toys in and a couple of boxes. The colours are also very plain.

This is from 'Behind Closed Doors'. The child's room in this is also very plain and dark. It is a quite similar to my design, in that the room doesn't have much except for the bed, table and lamp.

I also looked at 'Matilda'. Her bedroom has a lot in, but its still very plain coloured, and the use of lighting is very interesting. I am thinking about making the lamp work, and having it be the main source of light, like in this image.

So, I tried again:

I think these ones work so much better, adding the dingy marks on the wall really worked. Also, instead of having one framed painting up on that wall, I changed it to a few small drawings put up. These are also placed at the childs height, implying that she put them up herself.

I prefer the green one, it has a darker and sadder feeling to it.

Final Storyboard

Here is my final storyboard. I hope it is easy enough to read, when I have time, I'm going to put 6 panels per page with a description of each shot below the image.

Bird's Eye View

While I was making the storyboard, I found that I was struggling to figure out where in the world she was, and where the objects around her were. So I made a Bird's Eye View of the world.
I showed both worlds and the objects in them.

I showed the route the girl takes through both worlds, and the point at which the world changes.

Below is an image showing the footsteps of the giant toy's feet.

I think this really helped me understand the layout a lot better, and if I plan to put a birds eye view of the girl in the film, I can refer to this for shot construction.

Schedule - Full Production

I created a schedule for the whole of this production, it is not as detailed as the previous gantt charts, but it shows everything that is involved in making this film from September 2012 to May 2013
